Biggest Wellesley Marketplace ever on Nov 20

This year's Wellesley Marketplace will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Wellesley Middle School.

With the winter holidays fast approaching, it's time to mark your calendars for the 34th Wellesley Marketplace on Nov. 20. Just in time to help you find unique gift ideas for everyone on your list, this year's Marketplace will be the biggest ever, featuring an unprecedented number (more than 130) of exhibitors from across New England, with some from as far away as Jackson, Wyo.

Each year Wellesley Marketplace is held on the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving, superseding even "Black Friday" as the local kickoff to the holiday shopping season.  Marketplace is presented as a community fundraiser by the Wellesley Hills Junior Women's Club (WHJWC), and all ticket proceeds directly benefit local charities and scholarship programs.

          An Annual "Can't Miss" Event

Shoppers throughout the Greater Boston area anticipate Wellesley Marketplace for a variety of reasons.  Meghan Murray, Wellesley Marketplace chairman, says, "We know that many shoppers view Marketplace as an annual 'can't miss' event. Our Rutledge Super Spellers rocked at the WEF Spelling Bee

With a bit of last minute cramming, brokers Prue Hay and Chrissie Lawrence, and marketing assistant Susan Bailey performed well at the 21st annual Wellesley Education Foundation Spelling Bee at the Sprague School gym on Thursday, Nov. 4. While our intrepid team did not make it to the final round, they  fought valiantly, beating out several worthy opponents in their round and only losing to the Harvard Vanguard team. Spelling such words as "myastenia", "vaudevillian" and "xerosis" correctly, the team finally fell on the word "glissade."

Mike Dowling, longtime sportcaster for WCVB-TV, Wellesley resident and supporter of the WEF Bee,  moderated the event again this year.

The WEF provides wonderful support to the Wellesley schools, and many student organizations, colleges in town and local businesses participated. All fees and monies raised from the event go towards grants for enrichment programs in the schools. Rutledge Properties is pleased and proud to offer our support.

Couldn't make it last night to cheer our team on? Here's some pictures from the WEF Spelling Bee.

Cheer on Rutledge at the annual WEF Spelling Bee!

Our team of Super Spellers will represent Rutledge Properties at the annual Wellesley Education Foundation (WEF) Spelling Bee, to be held on Thursday, November 4 at 7:00 pm at the Sprague School Gym, 401 School Street in Wellesley (light refreshments are served from 6:30 to 7:00).

Representing Rutledge (pictured left to right) will be brokers Prue Hay and Chrissie Lawrence, and marketing assistant Susan Bailey.

The evening will begin with 7 rounds of 7 to 8 teams in the Preliminary Competition followed by the Championship Round with the Preliminary Round winners.

The WEF has a long tradition of supporting and valuing education in the town of Wellesley. WEF addresses the challenge of maintaining excellence in the Wellesley schools in today's financial reality. WEF's primary endeavor is to provide grants to educators for innovative educational projects at all grade levels. In awarding grants, WEF works closely with school administrators to fund projects that result in richer and deeper learning experiences and have the potential to impact a large number of students. We differ from Parent Teacher Organizations in funding programs that benefit students throughout the school system. During the 2004-2005 school year, WEF funded grant proposals totaling over $50,000. The letters WEF receives each year from educators who have received WEF grants express their deep appreciation for our community's support for their efforts to enrich the educational experience of Wellesley's students.

Come on out and support this fine organization and the Rutledge Team of Super Spellers!
