Well, Marti, you sound like a farm girl. Your sun flower image looks like rays of sun and joy coinmg out of a cloud of green. They point to an out of focus flower in the distance that still brings a smile to my face, in spite of being blurred. The sun flower does bloom at the end of summer but it is a bloom that causes me to be happy and makes me want to smile. I don't know why they affect me that way but they always have. I use to drive past big fields of them when I was growing up in rural southern Illinois. In the morning they would be looking to the east, waiting for the sun rise and then in the evening they were watching the west to see the sun set. They were almost like friends that I could believe in and feel comfortable with. I have a big bouquet of them on the dining room table right now and they bring such brightness and happiness to my home. After having passed through 8 decades, the end of summer is totally different for me now than it was as I was growing up. Now, summer just fades smoothly into fall with a wonderful change in color, cooler temperatures and closure of swimming pool, but it is still a happy time for me. I no longer have to worry about getting back into a school mode (something I hated but did a lot of). Seemed like I lost some of my freedom because of going to school. As I look back, it would have been nice to look forward to learning about new things and enjoying the chance to do that. The end of summer meant being controlled by assignments and dead lines, with the weekends being small escapes into my own life. I have always loved the changing seasons and each one had its positives and negatives. The good thing is that I always knew that spring would be back in a matter of months and I could get my life back and feel that sense of freedom again.Your story of the ending summer is inspirational and has caused me to sit back and remember the past, something I don't do often. Thank you for your presence.Wes
